Tuesday 03/05/11

This is a video where I'm saying some things. In summary, the things that I'm saying are:

1) We'll be uploading a video in June where I'll be reading the first chapter of Exit Through The Wound

2) As I think it's highly unlikely that I'll be doing readings overseas when the book comes out in September, my publisher will organise Skype conference calls where I can do readings 'via the interwebs' for an audience that will call in. The first of these will probably be at a convenient time for North America (based on book interest so far)

I had to write down my points as well, because I'm freaking out in the video so much that I don't think I'm making any sense. And I'm certainly not going back to film it again.

Your accent is the best.

By the way, Nicola Roberts is releasing a single in June. I'm assuming you'd be interested because you are both proudly pale.

You are seeming more and more human with every post. Should I be worried?

Oh, and I see you have what may be the cutest cat video ever on your YouTube. Very human. Definitely getting worried.

Very cute

London Preppy said...

toby: I know, yeah. Have you seen the cover picture? It's quite good

insipid: Ha, yeah I know what you mean. Just to take a seriousmoment here, I think that will be the case from now on. Because I have to do these things as myself (as the writer) instead of the actual character, it will become more obvious that I'm not ACTUALLY London Preppy (completely and 100% of the time anyway). Which is fine, I guess

anon: Why, thank you

Toby said...

Yup, she looks fierce. I hope this album gets proper promo, unlike what happened with poor Nuhdeen.

insipidscreennamehere said...

You should probably do a disclaimer post to that effect.

Also to take a seriousmoment, just as well we're (nearly) all also, like, human. Kinda nice to see the (v endearingly-accented) man behind the character.

Congrats on being so pale

a) your accent rocks (beyond what I had ever considered)
b) how swanky is your place?
c) your eyes looked you had either been crying or were on something

I didn't ever expect you to be softly-spoken or even polite. You seem almost likeable - but bear in mind I am maxed-out on anti-depressants and wouldn't dream of saying otherwise unless I was!

It still cuts through me it's you getting a book published and I will spend the first week it is out in a padded cell but genuinely pleased. It's a fantastic achievement. You cunt.

writersblokc said...

I have to agree with your 'transformation', even though it is a bit weird saying you become more human, as if you weren't before. For me, seeing the man behind the character is as interesting as reading about him. I can see some of the vulnerability I knew London Preppy has deep down - and it's not just because you are obviously nervous, thus irresistibly cute.
Shall I ask about any London readings?

I think it's only right that you 'act yourself' in these videos, as trying to act as London Preppy would probably turn out very odd.
But very cool video. Your personality seems very attractive. And I didn't expect your accent to sound quite as English (not sure if that is a good thing?)

Started following your blog about a month ago and been going through your old posts. Unfortunately, you don't have a proper archive menu of your old posts so it can be quite a hassle. But it's all worth it. Became an instant fan of your writing and stories. Can't wait to get and read your book.
And damn! You're cute !

London Preppy said...

jon: THANK YOU

rogue: I spent an hour before making the video reading 'vintage Rogue comments' and crying to myself, which made my eyes look like that

writers: Yeah, there definitely will be London readings. It's too early to formulate details, but publisher mentioned 4 to me the other day, so

anon: Ha, the accent is messed up. It sounds different to everyone

ben: Hey, new reader; amazing. Yeah the lack of archive is deliberate (sorry). I kinda don't like previous posts much. Anyway, thanks buddy

The Red Bar is removed to reveal... blue eyes?? Seems wrong somehow!

I always pictured you with brown eyes.

I'm now going to have to go away and re-assess all my other long-cherished assumptions. :o)

brother: Ha, what other assumptions could there be? That's all the red bar covered

I love this video.

It is such a good example of the disparity between the sound of someone's personality in your head when you read them online and the way they actually sound in person.

I love that you are both. It's a very strange thing how the internet gives you the opportunity to just leak out your brainwaves without filtering them through a social setting.

Anyway. I do love the video. My favourite bits are your intense eyes and the awkward smile at the end.

It'll only get easier. Well done!

p.s. I'd have made notes too
p.p.s You made total sense, don't worry

London Preppy said...

neurotic: With regard to the disparity, yeah, I'm actually glad I've left it all this time to 'show' who I am (in contrast to 'London Preppy'), because I've been able to build this character without the readers necessarily associating the two. Or mixing them up. So yeah. Oh and thanks for your nice comments

You may not like video but video certainly likes you.

I just read your last few posts and I am still laughing at the tattoos one. That was very good :) I love the fact that you had to show your leg to get the wristband at Coachella. By the way did you enjoy it (Coachella, that is)? I would say if I had known I would have looked to see if I recognized you in the crowd but I could barely find my friends or figure out were I was during that weekend ;)
The video is adorable. I agree with some of the other comments... Your accent is a mix of British and...something. Kinda cute. Keep it up. Looking fwd to reading the book this summer!

You sound just like my friend Haris, who is also Greek with very precise English.

It's like one of those B celebrities, once you go down slippery slope of revealing yourself, won't be long before you're doing porn.

It's becoming too much like Katie Price sorry.

I see you only post positive comments?

London Preppy said...

alwaysready: I absolutely loved Coachella. Will go back as soon as I can. And yeah, finding anyone was a bit of a task

Watching that video makes me even more intrigued as a long term reader of LP.

Who ARE you?

Martin

London Preppy said...

Katie Price anon: Your logic is amazing. Posting a video talking about promo for the book is clearly revealing too much of myself. I mean, really, after watching these few seconds, you now know everything about my sex life, my medical history, my family details and bank account information. Sorry I shared so much. I blatantly should have tried to talk about my book in the way every other writer on the planet does: hiding my face, giving interviews with voice distortion and lurking in the shadows somewhere.

Also, I have posted every comment left. There weren't any 'negative' comments. It seems that people didn't feel compelled to leave 'negative' comments. If someone feels the need to write an anonymous 'negative' comment to a short clip of some blogger talking about his work in an inoffensive, relaxed manner, I'm sorry but the problem is not mine. It's more likely his.

Not that I am obliged to publish the rants of that 1 in 1,000 person who wants to write in and be Living TV 'mean', you know?

martin: I DON'T EVEN KNOW ANYMORE *raises arms, wails, jumps off balcony*

nice vid.

very awkward and vulnerable.

even without the red bar you look cute.

after you finished i hope someone gave you a hug.

did you put on that accent?

London Preppy said...

george: Thank you. Also, no, I can't put on ANY accent. That's how I talk

polly said...

long time reader. still reeling from the removal of the red bar. you have such intense eyes it seems weird they were ever concealed.

can't wait for the book!

Reminds me a bit of the infamous, short-lived "bell" video from a few years back when you were leaving for a visit to Greece. You are clearly uncomfortable being filmed, but that just seems to make you a more appealing, adorable chap. Looking forward to the reading in June.

London Preppy said...

oldy: Ha, yes, 'the first video I've ever done' if you discount that one

Rogue said...

Oh ha-ha like you have feelings and like I could affect them.

Still a good video though must stop watching you seem likeable, as I said, wasn't prepared for that emotion. Yuck.

Shaun said...

Your voice is lovely; it's soothing, almost.

London Preppy said...

shaun: Thanks buddy; what a nice thing to say

Bryan said...

I am happy, nervous slightly curious of what your voice will be like. After years of reading your blog.....but damn, those accent and smile.....you are human afterall. I am proud of you LP for going the distance with the promotion. Look forward to many more of this.

Cheers.

London Preppy said...

bryan: Thank you. Yeah, I suppose getting published is literally the most important thing that's happened in my life so far (excluding personal events or whatevs) so I've got to 'give it a proper go'. Cheers back

Well, the first thing I thought of was that short-lived video shot just before you headed home for Greek Easter, so I watched this new video three times in rapid succession just in case you took it down immediatley. I remember watching that older video and wondering who this person was who had taken over London Preppy's Blog. I was bewildered. It took several viewings before it dawned on me--it's London Preppy. And then the video was gone. Drat, London Preppy had played one on us again.

beralex said...

You're so lovely; if I come to a reading can I have a cuddle? NOT a man hug but a proper cudz.

London Preppy said...

beralex: It's funny you should mention that; we're actually allowing for cuddling sessions after each reading

Jake said...

I think you should post a video of you reading the entire first chapter in Greek.

London Preppy said...

jake: I'm trying to forget how to speak Greek at the moment. That would just be counterproductive

Joshua said...

Marry me. Also, that picture on GWiP is awesome. Your guerrilla marketing techniques are working.

London Preppy said...

joshua: OK. Also, see, I knew that Marketing degree would come in handy some time

Nathan said...

I enjoy your continued inability to pronounce 'that'.
