Tuesday 14/06/09

At the place where I'm staying, it's Sunday morning when I hear a knock on the front door.  I go and answer it and there's a tramp standing there and he looks like he's taken too many bad drugs and washed them down with petrol and kerosene and he's been doing this since 1992.  He's in his early 40s, give or take ten years on either side, he's just way too destroyed for me to be able to tell.  He does have blue eyes though, which I suppose are quite nice.  He stares at me as I'm taking this in and then says: Hi, it's me, Alan.  I say, hi Alan.  Alan stares at me a bit more and says, Please let me in.  I say to Alan, I'm going to have to close the door now.  And Alan stands there unfazed as I close the door.  Thirty seconds later I open the door again and look out.  Alan is still there just to the side of my front door, and we find ourselves looking back at each other.

For a bizarre moment in my head I read this on a more psychological level. And then I carried on living my life.

I have a mate called Alan who looks like he's been on something since 1892. He's often to be found wandering around Sydney in a vague manner, scaring innocent people. Maybe it was him? If he had skin that looks like clay and you wondered if he could have once been chummy with Mary, Queen of Scots... It probably was!

Perhaps if you offer Alan some of your Xanax, he will go away.

Awwww poor thing... is he still standing there now?

Maybe you should invite him in? Could be good writing material?

I like how he expected you to know him. Maybe you do and you are just repressing the memory?
