Wednesday 03/09/08

So on Wednesday morning at 0845, I get the following comment:

“London Preppy (my real name used with correct spelling), as a member of this gym I plan to report you for taking photographs as it is a gross invasion of privacy. You are clearly a seedy little moron.”

On Wednesday morning at 0942, I'm wondering what this person is on about as I never took or posted any pictures. I'm sure everyone who reads this blog will be happy to leave a comment and say that such pictures never existed. Are there any more made up stories you'd like to share?

On Wednesday morning at 0943, I'm thinking:

- This person reads my blog

- This person knows my name

- This person leaves anonymous comments

- This person goes to my gym

- This person knows who I am and sees me day after day after day

- This person chooses to not tell me that he's aware of my blog, but instead continues to read and co-exist with me, watching me on a daily basis

But I am the seedy little moron.

And finally, only a few hours left on ebay for the London Preppy scrapbook.

Anonymous, please continue to bid if you want and don't worry, I'll post it to you instead of hand-deliver in the gym, so you can keep you anonymity.

That way, you can continue watching me from the shadows, talking about me with your friends, be disgruntled and appalled, but continue to read religiously.

Does this mean you've taken photos of him, or is he in high dudgeon on someone else's behalf? Perhaps he's digruntled because you HAVEN'T taken photos of him and posted them.

That's weird and stalker-ish...... Are you ok or weirded out? I'd be weirded out - I once had someone tell me they had seen me in a bar at a certain time on a certain night (correct) and that they would tell my partner at the time that I was trying it on with other men (incorrect). I was freaked!........

But nothing came of it - he sounds like a mischief maker

what photos?

gees, some people have amazing imaginations ...

LP,
I didn't realise that working out was such a shameful and/or personal thing that it needed to be kept behind closed doors. My gym has a 20m wall of windows onto a busy street. Should I invest in a sports burka?

martin said...

That is scary, you will be looking at everyone at the gym wondering if it's them. Anyway, I read your blog all the time and can't remember any pictures....

tom: I'm not that freaked out. I know that people who go to the gym read the blog, and I've specifically asked them to come forward and say hi. A nice American guy actually has. There are others who just prefer to lurk

kim: Yes, it's funny to think this person woke up, logged on to my blog at 0840 as he was eating his croissant and started making wild accusations like that

graham: I guess working out in a public space, such as a gym, is considered a private experience for people who are ugly and don't like to be seen in public at all. Perhaps they should just invest in a home gym. And set up a business at home. And get home delivery for their shopping

martin: Not to worry, I will maintain my usual gym demeanour of not looking in the direction of anyone at all

I don't think you want to be in his mindframe but you've got him worked out already. It seems like he wants to play mind/power games: if he's so upset why has he let you know he's going to report you, rather than just doing it? "Publish and be damned!"

so no more Superman or PPT post?

quigley: I think you have a very good point. Like Brendan said, if somebody really had an issue with something I wrote or posted, why can't he just come up to me in the gym and say it. He obviously wants me to worry with him keeping anonymous and using my real name

anon: Why are people such party poopers? How on earth does this affect them? There are 1,300 individuals reading this on a daily basis who get some pleasure / entertainment / laughs and one person has to ruin it for everyone

This is why I've started practicing parkour. Out of doors, free and clear of everyone... I reserve the right to change my mind once the temperature drops below 5.

Otherwise, I can't imagine how someone could make such an accusation. You've always been completely forthright on here, so I'm at a loss.

my money is on Mr Anonymous being Scott ... so he can have Mr Perfect all to himself

I am with Quigley and your friend Brendan on this. If someone REALLY had an issue with something they wouldn't bother sending a wimpy anonymous note on here but they would just either confront you or report whatever MADEUP accusation they had.

Now, if you ever had taken pictures (which I don't really remember at all) they would never have shown the full face of the subjects so I am not really sure on what ground you could ever be accused of anything (not even in theory...)

What a sad, sad, SAD and PATHETIC life some people live.

yeah, he's such a grumpy, old, grinch with no ounce of humor in his body. it was all just for good fun where nobody was really caused any harm. the guy is being admired for crying out loud.

i haven't seen such side of LP before and i was really looking forward to see more. but now i guess i should throw my hopes out of the window. i feel like a boy robbed of his lollipops.

always: I guess he just choked on his cornflakes first thing this morning at the "gross invasion of privacy" and he couldn't wait to go and report whatever MADE UP (thank you) stories he had. So he thought he's create some drama / attention / "LOOK AT ME WITH MY THREAT" story for himself

If he had proof of the photo's why didn't he point them out. You leave your posts up in your archives. Why didn't he say something to you in person at the gym. I would question this post.

i suspect it is that groping creap who frequents/leaks around your gym.

argh... wtf?! really this guy is such a wet blanket. I hate him. In fact he is probably straight.
"nyanyanya im going to report you"
we should ask bobby to make a podcast about him and cuss cuss CUSS!

LP - normally I don't comment on your blog although I am an avid reader. To hell with them. Being in public you give up your right to be 'photographed'. If it didn't, the paps would be out of a job. Post your pics! DON'T cave in and remove them! Stand your ground! Spirited conversations are a good thing.

franck said...

Given the early time the comment was made, the anonymous reader clearly had just woken up and confused dreams with reality.

Anonymous said...

wow it's a small world I guess, I dunno about you but I find that pretty freaky... how much confetti was on the note, anyway? ;-P

the more optimistic side of me is thinking it is one of your real-life friends having some fun at your expense and they'll laughingly tell so you pretty soon... hope so anyway!

Well, I guess we'll have to be content with our memories of that fine hunk of a man squatting over those weights. Its burned into my brain forever.

Maybe he was referring to a very old post where somebody could vaguely be seen in a distant background ?

Because I certainly don't remember any recent post where anybody could distinctly be seen working out in any way. Absolutely not.

Or maybe this is the creep you wrote about a few days ago who's trying to scare you ?

d said...

it was probably your 'mean' friend who sent you that email, just fucking with you

he laughing right now

I see that you removed a recent post. Good thing my ‘feed’ reader thingy kept posts for the past week, because by far that was your best post EVER.

At one time your post about your day at the office was my favorite post. Then it was your post outlining your similarities to Marky Mark. But now it is the MIA (humans vs the animal kingdom) post. Very funny stuff, keep up the good work.

maybe he's an animal rights activist and was just concerned about the lions...

Wait. For real? So I just imagined the post. You're just lucky it's not in the google cache.

timbo said...

Well who would know you better than the "friendly" old "straight" guy who stole your underwear and enjoys reading Melville novels? (when he's not reading your blog, that is)

He must be talking about the pictures you posted of yourself working out a while back. What a fucktard.

It's one thing to be a sad old perv, but also being bitter and vindictive is inexcusable.

Foxx said...

I have no idea what he is talking about! Strange person!

Obviously some people have some work still to do on the 'mens sana' portion of 'mens sana in corpore sano'.

How about sketches ? If you were a talented artist and could sketch from memory the scene at the gym would this be treated in the same way by the gym as taking a photograph ? What about a prose or poetic description ?

I quote:

"This person chooses to not tell me that he's aware of my blog, but instead continues to read and co-exist with me, watching me on a daily basis

But I am the seedy little moron."

--Isn't the difference that you (LP) *choose* to tell the sundry secrets about your life on this blog, and the people at your gym have not consented? Certainly they haven't consented to being photographed in compromising poses, with or without their eyes being blocked off.

Not that you asked, but I think posting those pictures was quite unethical. And I think it's doubly unethical (if not cowardly) to take them down, then "playfully" deny they never existed. You may lose a reader over this one... Certainly a link...

London Preppy said...

anon: Let me know if I've linked you here on the right and I'll remove your link too. Thanks for reading so far anyway

[your name, which I know], you took pictures of me in the gym that we are both members of and I am going to sue you for blahblahblah.

See how easy that was? I was going to hit the anonymous button, but I realized I was a vertebrae.

Btw, is this dude referring to the pictures from London Pride or something?

Dearest London Preppy...

I think this is only the second (third?) time I have commented. That doesn't mean my comment should carry more weight, but it just sounds like a good, somber intro.

I am concerned about the anonymous entry from the whimpish, testicle-less poster who threatens you. I am writing not to diminish his manhood, but to encourage your courage and blog-a-bility. The world is a better place with your clear, fearless posting. If you don't want to be photographed, blogged about, or be part of the real-world, then you should consider being Amish.

Seriously - it is the year 2008 - and to exist is to be published - to walk in public is to be digitized and to be commented about is to be human...

Love to you (and invites to SF)...

LP, I also attend one of those large chain gyms. There are no signs about the use of mobiles with or without cameras. There are no signs about the gym being private or a phone/camera free environment. You never identify the gym or any person in the text and if you actually posted photos, I am sure you would be discreet and respectful. Me thinks Anon's mummy didn't show him enough attention when he was growing up.
